IF YOU LIVE IN WHITE PLAINS:
White Plains is your home library, and you are eligible to receive a White Plains Public Library card. Two forms of ID, one with your name and current address, are required the first time you register and each time you renew. Your White Plains card is honored at all Westchester public libraries and at the Westchester Community College library. Guest privileges may be available to others who are residing temporarily in White Plains. Limit of 3 items for all new borrowers.
IF YOU LIVE OUTSIDE OF WESTCHESTER COUNTY, BUT WORK, GO
TO SCHOOL OR OWN PROPERTY IN WHITE PLAINS:
White Plains is your home library, and you are eligible to receive a
White Plains Public Library card. Two forms of ID are required at sign up and
each time you renew, one with your current home address, one with current White
Plains work or school address or proof of property ownership. Limit of 3 items
for all new borrowers.
IF YOU LIVE, WORK, GO TO SCHOOL OR OWN PROPERTY
ELSEWHERE IN WESTCHESTER COUNTY:
A) If you are already registered in the Westchester Library System, your
card is honored at White Plains. Two forms of ID, one with your name and current
address, are required each time you renew.
B) If you are not already registered in the Westchester Library System, you are eligible for a temporary registration at White Plains, which will expire in 30 days. White Plains will forward your application to your home library for processing. Two forms of ID are required, one with your name and current address, as proof that you live, work, go to school or own property in Westchester. Limit of 3 items for all new borrowers.
IF YOU DO NOT LIVE, WORK, GO TO SCHOOL OR OWN PROPERTY
IN WESTCHESTER COUNTY:
You may purchase a card from the Westchester Library System at an annual fee of
$75.00. An application form is available at our Checkout Desk, which must be
sent directly to WLS with your payment. Your card will be mailed to you
directly from the Westchester Library System and is honored at all Westchester
public libraries. Your nonresident registration is valid for 1 year.
IF YOU FORGET YOUR CARD:
You may borrow materials for a $1 fee. One ID is required, preferably a
driver’s license or photo identification. YOU MAY BORROW ONLY ON YOUR
OWN CARD.

RENEWALS:
Renewals may be made by calling the automated telecirc at 674-4169 or
online (www.whiteplainslibrary.org) for borrowers in good standing so long
as the material is eligible (see above), not overdue, on hold or an
interlibrary loan. Telephone and online renewals are available 24/7.

BORROWING LIMIT of 50 items per card, including up to 10 each of the following formats: CDs, DVDs, Videos, Playaways, Audiobooks, CD-Roms, ebooks. Limit of 3 items for all new borrowers.
YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR MATERIALS BORROWED ON YOUR CARD. Please report lost cards immediately. Library privileges may be suspended until financial obligations are met by the borrower, or if library materials are overdue. There is a $5 replacement fee for adult library cards and a $2 replacement fee for juvenile library cards.
INTERLIBRARY LOANS:
Books may be borrowed for you from other libraries beyond the Westchester
Library System. Occasionally fees from the lending library may apply. Ask
at the Adult Reference Desk for more information.
HOLDS:
You may place holds on any circulating item in the WLS catalog, regardless
of whether the item is in the Library or checked out to another borrower.
You may reserve in person, by phone at 422-1480 or online at www.whiteplainslibrary.org.
You will be notified by e-mail or phone when your hold becomes available.
A service fee of 75¢ is charged when a hold is NOT picked up.
BOOK DROPS:
Outside return chutes next to the main entrance are open 24 hours a day, 7
days a week. In addition, a drive-up return box is open during library
hours. Any materials may be returned in these depositories. Please put
items in one at a time, so the chutes do not get clogged!
LIBRARY HOURS: Monday & Wednesday: 10am - 9pm, Tuesday & Thursday: 10am - 6pm . Friday, Saturday, Sunday: 1pm - 5pm (Call 422-1480 for summer hours and holiday closings)
